Challenge
Pet owners value peace of mind and the ability to ensure the safety of their furry companions. GBT Technologies envisioned a pet tracking device that was accurate, reliable, cost-effective, and compact enough to attach to a pet’s collar. The challenge was to extend the product’s functionality beyond a stationary setup, allowing pet owners to track their pets even when away from home.
GBT Technologies approached EasyIOT with an early-stage prototype. The existing tracker communicated with a stationary gateway plugged into a home WiFi router. However, the client wanted to develop a portable gateway to enable mobility and real-time location tracking accessible via smartphones, tablets, or desktops. The product needed to maintain affordability, avoid reliance on cellular networks, and offer exceptional accuracy and reliability.
Solution
EasyIOT designed an innovative solution featuring a suite of products that addressed the client’s requirements and exceeded expectations:
- Guardian Orb: A lightweight tracker that attaches to a pet’s collar and communicates with either Guardian Home or Guardian Go.
- Guardian Home: A stationary gateway that connects to an internet router. It tracks pets within a 10-mile radius and pairs with devices via WiFi or cellular networks.
- Guardian Go: A portable gateway designed for mobility. Small enough to fit in a pocket, it features Bluetooth pairing, a 16-hour battery life, and a 10-mile tracking range.
- Mobile App: An intuitive app that displays real-time pet location on smartphones, tablets, or desktops, providing instant updates to pet owners.
Execution
After analyzing the client’s needs, EasyIOT chose LoRa as the wireless communication technology between the tracker and the portable gateway. LoRa’s long-range capabilities and low power consumption were ideal for the application, covering a radius of several kilometers without relying on cellular networks. This decision eliminated monthly fees for end-users, ensuring the product remained cost-effective.
